Global Mindset
Achieving a global mindset is the first step towards global competence whose prevalence leads to world peace and growth. The differences of customs and traditions formulate peoples’ various ideologies, and the troubles that come from the disparity indicate the focal points to problem-solving. Managing the disconnect in societies where citizens are socialized to deal with people who are like them entails development of an approach that helps them interpret and grasp their environments, as well as their ways of thinking.
A global mindset requires advancement of one’s intellectual, mental, emotional and social capacity. A cosmopolitan outlook allows cognitive complexity. A habit of reflecting on one’s own mind and outlook results in self-awareness and growth. A love for knowledge and diversity brings capability of empathy and self-worth. A desire for interactive discourse and human progress solidifies cultural acceptance and tolerance.
As one learns about cultures, political and economic systems, he or she reaches beyond comfort zones and nurtures a mindset that respects and appreciates others. Openness towards other cultures, other people, and other ways of living or doing things helps one adapt to new, varied and diverse universality. Exploration, then, is the opposite of blind fear or obstinacy. Only when one seeks to utilize learnings and explorations, can he or she embrace diversity and attain global competence. Without judgmental views of cultural differences, the world can become more connected, finding ways to cooperate and collaborate with their differences, instead of on their differences.
In this protectionist era, the U.S. and the U.K. increasingly seek to fight against globalization via trade wars, among other tactics. History has proven that nationalism or protectionism only leads to long-term losses. Globalization, started in the late 15th century through the expansion of global trade, and has heightened global awareness ever since. To this day, its force is unending, as manifested in China's Belt & Road initiative, which seeks to link the country with Europe and Africa. Any country averting from the globalization path will lose serious competitive advantages in the future.
Bigotry, nationalism, and chauvinism can only hurt. Cultivating diverse and inclusive cultures, while opening our closed minds to new ideas, on the other hand, will benefit our domestic and global communities.
